There's beauty in the broken

There's beauty in the broken

There is so much beauty in the broken.

These mosaics are the latest love of my second spring life and I've got to say I'm enchanted. I'm starting with wee birds, about 6 to 7 inches long. As soon as I get the kinks worked out I'm going to do my first owl.

I make the pattern, cut the wood base (or substrate as the mosaic community calls it), design it, cut the china to fit, glue it, grout it, then seal it. There are actually a lot more steps than that, but too many to list here.

Here are a couple of the birds - they are in the earliest stage, but I couldn't wait any longer to share them with you.
